Challenge

Optimizing indoor air quality automation

Excessive carbon dioxide (CO2) levels can cause lethargy and drowsiness, potentially leading to headaches, dizziness, reduced productivity, etc. Furthermore, at certain concentrations, CO2 can affect human decision-making ability, in some cases reducing it by more than 50%.

The most effective solution for maintaining optimal CO2 levels in apartments and houses without automatic ventilation systems is regular ventilation. However, leaving windows fully or partially open can disrupt the temperature balance in a room, sometimes leading to drafts and affecting people's quality of life.

KORSA Windows (or simply KORSA) introduced a new solution for efficient and safe window ventilation. They then began exploring the possibility of automating this process, allowing windows to automatically open under specific conditions, such as high CO2 concentrations or high humidity in the air.

Solution

The automatic ventilation system is based on KORSA Comfort windows, a LifeQuality air quality meter, and Ajax relays. This combination creates an efficient ventilation system, ensuring optimal comfort and air quality in your living space.

Introducing KORSA Comfort

KORSA Comfort is a window system developed by KORSA that integrates automatic ventilation and security features. The window frame shifts inward, creating a 6 mm ventilation channel along the entire perimeter of the window. However, the windows maintain their anti-theft features, ensuring both ventilation and security within the property.

During this ventilation process, air saturated with carbon dioxide moves out through the top of the window, while fresh outdoor air enters from below and gradually circulates throughout the entire space.

With this system, you will experience minimized heat loss and exceptional ventilation efficiency, without enduring the inconvenience of cold air drafts like traditional "casement" ventilation systems.

Automatic ventilation system

Combining KORSA Comfort windows with the Ajax system helps maintain comfortable humidity and CO2 levels without human intervention.

The Ajax LifeQuality smart air quality sensor measures CO2 levels in real time with scientific accuracy. Users can set their preferred air quality parameters. If the sensor detects CO2 levels exceeding the set limit, it communicates with the control center. The control center runs a scenario that activates the Ajax relay to open the ventilation window. When the CO2 level drops to the desired level, the control center initiates a reverse scenario to close the window.

For example, if LifeQuality detects CO2 levels higher than the comfort threshold of 1000 ppm, the KORSA Comfort window will automatically open for ventilation, creating a 6 mm gap along the entire perimeter of the window. When readings from all relevant sensors reach a comfortable level, such as below 700 ppm, the window will automatically close.

Users can also remotely control the opening and closing of windows via the Ajax application.
